Day Trips from Side, Turkey

Antalya is the obvious first choice because it is close and varied. You can walk the restored Old Town (Kaleiçi), visit the harbour, or spend half a day at the Aquarium. It works as a relaxed introduction to the region without committing a full day.

Alanya delivers the strongest single-day contrast to Side. The Seljuk castle dominates the peninsula, Damlataş Cave offers a quick geological detour, and the waterfront promenade is built for strolling. It is a full-day commitment, but the variety justifies the drive.

No other day trip from Side competes with Pamukkale for sheer visual impact. The travertine terraces and the adjacent ruins of Hierapolis are a UNESCO pairing that justifies the long drive. Expect an early start, significant time on the road, and a late return. If you have only one full day to spare, this is the heavy hitter.

Green Canyon is the antidote to busy resort beaches. A boat trip across the Oymapınar Reservoir cuts through steep, forested walls that feel more Norwegian fjord than Turkish coast. This trip combines two distinct experiences: a boat ride inside Altınbeşik Cave along an underground river, and a walk through Ormana, a village of traditional wooden houses in the Taurus foothills. The drive is mountainous and winding, but the payoff is a side of the region most beach tourists never see.

The shortest drive on this list and the most self-contained experience. Land of Legends is a large-scale theme park and water park complex just outside Belek. It is not a cultural day out, but if you are travelling with children who need a break from ancient ruins, this is the most convenient option.

Suluada sits in the Mediterranean south of Adrasan, reached by boat after a drive west from Side. The water colour is genuinely striking — a deep turquoise that justifies the nickname “Turkish Maldives.” The day is mostly about swimming and sunbathing, so it suits travellers who want a beach day with a sense of journey rather than a cultural itinerary.

Tazi Canyon is a relatively new entry on the day-trip map. The viewing platform looks straight down a sheer drop into the Köprüçay River gorge, and the surrounding area is thick with pine forest and mountain roads. Aspendos is the closest major ancient site to Side and home to the best-preserved Roman theatre in the Mediterranean. The acoustics are still intact, and the structure hosts occasional performances. It is a short, focused trip that pairs well with a stop at the nearby aqueduct. No full day required.

Perge lies just east of Antalya and was one of the most important cities of ancient Pamphylia. The colonnaded street, agora, and stadium are extensive enough to wander for a couple of hours. It is the easiest historical half-day from Side and combines naturally with Aspendos if you want a full ancient-cities day.

The national park centres on a deep canyon carved by the Köprüçay River. Most visitors come for white-water rafting, but the area also has Roman bridges, olive groves, and riverside restaurants. It is more active than Green Canyon and works as either a half-day adrenaline hit or a slower nature day.

You do not need to leave the district for this one. The Manavgat River runs from the Taurus Mountains to the sea, and the waterfall just north of town is a standard half-day stop.
